Hot Minute with Emara: At Home Whitening Kits

Apr 1 • 2 minute read

We’ve come to that point of the year where the holiday season becomes a blur… Octovcember. ‘Tis the season of lots of food, family gatherings, and most of all, PICTURES! Time after time, we’re told to smile and say “cheese”, so why not brighten up our smiles in preparation! We have the newest at home whitening kits made by Phillips Sonicare available at our office now. I decided to give it a try! In my case, I had an Usher concert coming up. So in hopes that Usher may find my face in the crowd with my bright new smile (wishful thinking, I know), I decided to whiten my teeth with one of the kits! Before I whitened, I got my teeth cleaned by the infamous, Gina, my colleague hygienist! For best results, whitening is best after freshly cleaned teeth!

We have two kits, Advance (it has 9.5% hydrogen peroxide) and Caring (it has 6.5% hydrogen peroxide). These are my Confessions of using the Sonicare Advanced Whitening Kit. Everything you need comes in the kit: 4 moldable trays, 3 whitening gel syringes, a case to hold your trays, and a shade guide. Before getting Caught Up in the excitement of whitening your teeth, take a “before” picture of your smile. It’ll be important to note that you will want to use the same lighting for your before and after pictures.

It was very easy to make the trays mold to my teeth after placing them in hot water. If you Got it Bad on the first try, it’s as simple as placing it back in the hot water to try again. Once you get your trays ready to go, you only have to wear them with the gel for 30 minutes! Try not to overfill it. In this case, you don’t want to let it Burn (it doesn’t burn at all. I just couldn’t help myself with that song pun ). After my first use, the results were Good, Good! There was minimal to no sensitivity and the taste was minty fresh! Yeah! I whitened my teeth for 5 days in a row. See my results below!

My biggest takeaway is that the shade guide wasn’t up to scale for me. That’s why the before and after pictures are very important. The hardest thing about whitening was the abstaining from stain causing food/drinks for 48 hours after whitening. OMG! That was 7 days without coffee! It was worth it though! I felt like a Superstar going to the concert! Even though my smile didn’t capture Usher’s attention, at least my smile is camera ready for my holiday cards!

I hope you enjoyed all of my Usher puns
